Getting Started

How do I get started working with Dawn Petition Support?

Simply reach out through the contact page or schedule a call via the booking link. We'll have a brief conversation about your firm's workflow, preferences, and any specific requirements you have. From there we establish a simple service agreement and you're ready to send your first file.

Do you work with attorneys in all states?

Dawn Petition Support currently serves attorneys filing in a focused set of federal bankruptcy districts, with active working knowledge of each district's local rules, trustee requirements, and standing orders. All work is delivered remotely. See the Districts page for currently served jurisdictions, or reach out to discuss your specific district.

Do you require a long-term commitment?

No. There is no retainer requirement and no minimum volume. You send files when you need support and pay only for completed work. Use this service as much or as little as your caseload requires.

The Work

What do you need from me to prepare a petition?

A fully completed client intake form, Credit Counseling Certificate, six months of pay stubs or proof of income, and the most recent two years of federal tax returns. Additional documentation may be needed depending on the case. A complete file means a faster, more accurate turnaround.

What software do you use?

I work within your firm's existing workflow. I have access to Best Case and Next Chapter and can prepare petitions directly in those platforms, or I can prepare and deliver files in a format that works for your software of choice. If your firm uses a different bankruptcy platform, just let me know when we get started.

How do you deliver completed petitions?

Delivery depends on how we're set up to work together. If I'm working in your Best Case account directly, the file is already there when I'm done. If I'm working in my own Best Case, I'll send the completed file to you for upload. For cloud-based platforms, you'd simply provide login access and the work is available in your account. We'll sort out the simplest workflow for your firm when we get started.

What is your standard turnaround time?

2–3 business days from receipt of a complete, organized file. The clock starts when I have everything needed, not when you first reach out.

Do you offer expedited turnaround?

Expedited turnaround is available for urgent filings. An expedited surcharge applies. Please contact Dawn to confirm availability and current rates.

What happens if information is missing during preparation?

I compile all questions, missing items, and case flags into a written list and deliver it to you alongside the completed petition draft. Following up with your client is your call, you know the relationship. If there's a specific document outstanding and you'd like me to send a straightforward request on your behalf, I can do that under your direction. That's the extent of it.

Do you make corrections after delivery?

Yes. If a correction is needed based on the information originally provided, it's handled promptly at no additional charge. I review every petition before delivery specifically to minimize this — but if something needs adjustment, the turnaround is fast and the process is simple.

Scope and Professional Boundaries

Do you provide legal advice?

No. Dawn Petition Support provides document preparation services only. All legal judgment, client counseling, and filing decisions remain entirely with the attorney. This line doesn't move.

Do you contact my clients directly?

My primary role is preparing petitions, that's where my focus is, and that's what I do well. There are supporting services, such as 341 meeting notifications, where delivering specific information to a debtor is part of the task. When that's the case, the communication is narrow, factual, and limited strictly to what the service requires. I don't walk clients through their cases, gather intake information, or have open-ended conversations about their situation. That's not what I'm here for, and frankly, that's exactly the kind of contact that creates risk for your practice. You control what I do and when.

Are you a licensed attorney or paralegal?

No. Dawn Petition Support is a bankruptcy petition preparation specialist, a trained document preparer who works exclusively under attorney direction. This is a recognized and well-established role in the bankruptcy field. I am not an attorney, I do not act as one, and I will never cross that line.

Which bankruptcy districts do you work with?

Dawn Petition Support maintains active working knowledge of the districts listed on the Districts page. For filings in other districts, please reach out before submitting your first file — a brief conversation ensures the correct local requirements are applied from the start.

Pricing and Payment

When are invoices issued?

Weekly. Invoices are due upon receipt.

What payment methods do you accept?

Check, ACH transfer, or credit card via secure online link.

Do rates ever change?

Rates are subject to change, but any changes are discussed and agreed upon before implementation. You will never be surprised by a rate increase.

Who prepares my petitions?

Every petition is prepared personally by Dawn, not outsourced, not delegated to staff. You work with the same person every time.

What training and credentials do you have?

Comprehensive bankruptcy petition preparation training through two recognized programs: the 713 Training Bankruptcy Petition Specialist curriculum, the industry's foundational training for petition preparers covering Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 preparation, means test calculations, schedules, and Best Case software; and the Alexander Hernandez Bankruptcy course and video series, providing additional depth in consumer bankruptcy procedure and petition strategy. Combined with a decade of legal document experience, this training forms the technical foundation for every petition prepared.

Background includes legal secretary experience in a high-volume law firm, securities-paralegal work supporting a capital markets consulting firm, corporate project analysis at Ford Motor Company, and nearly a decade of professional document preparation and review. I am also a commissioned notary in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

How do you handle confidential client information?

All client files are handled and stored securely. Sensitive client information is stored locally and is not retained in cloud-based systems beyond the period necessary to complete the requested services. Confidentiality is maintained in accordance with the terms of our service agreement.

What if I'm not satisfied with the work?

Contact me directly. Any concerns are addressed promptly and without friction. My goal is accurate, thorough petition preparation that makes your practice run more smoothly — and if something isn't right, I make it right at no additional charge. That's not a policy statement, it's simply how I work.
